Blancco Employs Industry-First Technology to Inspect Mobile FeliCa IC Chips Circulation of data-erased used mobile devices tops 1.5 million in two years
January 27, 2017
Blancco Japan Inc. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Takayuki Go; “Blancco,” hereafter), an equity method affiliate of information distribution support service provider Aucnet Inc. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and Executive Officer: Kiyotaka Fujisaki; “Aucnet,” hereafter), has developed and sold Blancco Mobile for FeliCa, an integrated solution that inspects and erases Osaifu Keitai®(“Mobile Wallet”)usage data recorded on the Mobile FeliCa IC chips built in to Android™ smartphones. As of the end of January 2017, the cumulative number of used mobile devices circulated since the solution went on sale around two years ago has topped 1.5 million.
Aucnet has been using software from Blancco since 2005 as an industry pioneer in the thorough inspection and data erasure of used digital equipment in an effort to ensure safe and secure distribution.
In February 2015, Blancco received technical cooperation from FeliCa Networks, Inc. (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Masahiro Soga), and went on to develop and commence use of Blancco Mobile for FeliCa, an industry-first technology for erasing data from FeliCa IC chips, determining the presence of usage data, and diagnosing malfunctions.
Over the past several years, the circulation of digital devices, and used mobile devices in particular, has increased significantly each year, and in turn, technologies to inspect a device and erase existing data have become indispensable when considering the distribution of used devices. Against this backdrop, in the two years since Blancco began sales, the cumulative number of Android™ devices circulated in the used market after inspection and data erasure using Blancco Mobile for FeliCa has topped 1.5 million.
The electronic payment market continues to expand, and the number of FeliCa-enabled devices is expected to increase in the future. Accordingly, there is a growing need to protect and erase payment information as important personal information.
Aucnet will continue to utilize Blancco products to ensure the thorough inspection and data erasure of mobile phones and other used digital devices, and is committed to achieving the safe and secure distribution of used equipment.
